Malaysian automaker Proton has inaugurated the nation's first dedicated electric vehicle assembly facility in Tanjong Malim, marking a strategic leap in Southeast Asia's burgeoning EV market. The plant, located within the Automotive High Tech Valley, represents a RM47 million (US$11 million) initial investment with capacity for 20,000 vehicles annually—scalable to 45,000 units.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim's presence at the opening ceremony underscores government support for sustainable mobility. The facility combines automated production with skilled labor, creating 200+ jobs while assembling Proton's e.MAS models through its technology partnership with China's Geely.

This development solidifies Malaysia's automotive leadership position in the region, achieving full-scale production just seven months after groundbreaking. The rapid deployment demonstrates Proton's operational efficiency as Southeast Asia's EV demand accelerates.
